When Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit, because the power of the Most High had overshadowed her, as announced by an Angel. For the Angel said to her: „Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God.” And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly, though she had been known not a man. But as he considered this, an angel appeared to him in a dream, saying: „Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” (Text based on Matthew 1:18-21 and Luke 1:30-35 verses.)
